Late May Bank Holiday
May 28th – May 29th
The English Civil War Society in partnership with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham was very pleased to present this Major Muster, featuring scenes based upon Events in June 1648 where London meets Essex.
The Earl of Norwich had led Kentish soldiers across the Thames following their defeat at the Battle of Maidstone, and they were camped in the village of Dagen-ham before continuing to join the Royalist uprising in Colchester.
The Council had commissioned the Event following the successful RIE hosted by Rawdon’s Regiment in 2015 which saw over 6,000 visitors watch the English Civil War Society in action.
On the Sunday and Monday afternoon both Armies took part in a major battle to represent the interception of some of Lord Norwich’s forces by elements of the New Model Army.
There was also be drill displays by Horse, by Foote and by Artillery, and the much-admired ECWS Living History organisation created another peerless display outside Valence House itself.
